Michael Ray Evans, 75 of Independence, MO passed away Monday, May 13, 2024 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time at the church. Donations may be made in his name to the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation, www.mochf.org and the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, MO. Mike was born July 13, 1948 in Kansas City, MO to William Stanley and Virginia Helen Evans and has been a lifelong area resident. He interrupted his college years to proudly serve in the US Marine Corps before returning to complete a B.S. degree and M.S. degree at CMSU. He later worked at Allied Signal (Honeywell) as an occupational health and safety advisor until he retired in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and was an avid ice hockey fan and loyal follower of the KC Mavericks. He was formerly a chairman of the Independence Citizens with Disabilities Commission. Mike and his wife, Julie, were longtime members of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. He was married to Julie (Stone) on May 14, 1988, and she survives him of the home. Other survivors include a sister, Candie Smith and husband Paul of Green Valley, AZ; a brother, Richard Evans and wife Loretta of Wichita, KS; a niece, Melissa Simnitt and husband Bryce, a nephew, Michael Eugene Rains (Tonya) and an uncle, Allen Evans of Independence, MO.
