Alvin Leon Miley, Jr., 77 of Raytown, went to his eternal home with our Lord (aka “the Big Man”) on August 4, 2016. Visitation will be from 2-4pm Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Celebration of Life service will follow at 4 pm at the chapel. Private burial at a later date. Alvin was born Oct. 12, 1938 in Newtown, MO to the late Alvin and Beulah Miley. Due to the death of his mother when he was 9 months old he was raised by his late maternal grandparents Harry and Anna Pigg. He graduated from Milan High School in Milan, MO and continued his education for 1½ years at the University of Missouri. He retired from City of Independence Fire Department after 32 years of service. During this time he served 2 years in the US Army. In 1961 he married Bonnie Wheeler, with whom he had two children. She preceded him in death in 1994. In 1997 he married Phyllis Liechti, who survives of the home. Others preceding him in death were his sister, Margaret, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins and very good friends. Survivors are his wife; son, Michael (Lorna), Anchorage, AK; daughter, Lori Langley (Mike), Independence, MO and step son Steve Mason, Cave Junction, OR; Grandson’s Curtis (Mackenzie), Blake (Jessica), Craig, Todd & Scott Miley; step Granddaughter’s Katelyn Wickham and Lola Conner-Urnise (Paul); Great Grandson, Evan Leon Miley and step Great Grandchildren Preston Conner, Lilly and Bella Conner-Urnise. Also his step Brother and Sister, Gene Kearney and Dottie Garza, aunts, niece, nephews, many cousins and good friends. In lieu of flowers family requests donations to American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
