Arlene Miller, 80, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 in her little home in the woods. A Celebration of her life will be held at 6pm on Monday, November 26, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church 100 N. Pleasant, Independence, MO, 64050. Family will greet guests from 4-6pm at the church.
Arlene was born on December 5, 1937 in St. Clair County, MO to Kenneth and Wave (Gray) Brown. She worked various jobs through the years including bank secretary, medical assistant, and Hallmark Cards. In her spare time, she enjoyed tatting, playing bridge, reading, embroidering, attending her granddaughters’ musical performances, feeding birds, chasing away squirrels, and cheering for the Royals and K-State. She also had her standing breakfast and lunch engagements with her neighborhood friends, high school classmates, and the G.G’s (God’s Girls, widow support group). Most of all she loved her time with her husband and family. One of her most prized possessions were the hundreds of love letters from the man for whom she carried a torch – her Genie Boy. Arlene was a lifelong and wholly dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church in Independence. Among her many acts of service are church memorial committee, Elder, Menninger Bible Study, Wings, refreshment committee, Pastoral Search Committee, and member of VIP Sunday School class.
She will be remembered and honored by her daughters April McCormick and husband Dan of Independence, MO, Sabrina Crossley of Roswell, GA, Marlo Knapp and husband Kevin of Lee’s Summit, MO; granddaughters Caitlyn Bazemore (Josh), Sophia McCormick, Jeanne-Marie Knapp, Vivian McCormick, and Lucy Knapp; sister-in-law Deborah Brown; plus several other extended family members and many friends.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gary Brown, son-in-law Rick Crossley, and her beloved husband Gene Miller.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church Independence, in lieu of flowers.
