Raymond Lorel (R.L.) Minton passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Season’s Care Center, Kansas City, MO. Services will be Friday, July 1, 2016. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm, Memorial service at 2:00 pm at the East 39th Street Community of Christ Church, Independence, MO. Private burial at 10:00 am at Mound Grove Cemetery. R.L. was born on September 13, 1937 in Independence, MO to Lorel and Maudie (Keck) Minton. He grew up in Independence graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1955, from Graceland College in 1957, and Central Missouri State University in 1959 where he received a degree in Business Management. On March 12, 1959 he married Betty Hostetler in Orlando, FL, her home congregation of the Community of Christ. R.L. started his working career in the Sears Management Training program in 1959. He then went to ITT-Kellogg in a customer service capacity. In 1963 he joined Butler Manufacturing Company as a cost accountant. He later became the cost accounting supervisor and then the Senior Budget Analyst on the corporate level. In 1968 he went to Herald Publishing as the controller, retiring in 1999. He served as treasurer of the Independence Chamber of Commerce 1980-1982 and as a member of the Board of Directors 1982-1985. He was President of the Independence Kiwanis Club 1981-1982. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Protestant Church Owned Publishers Association while employed at Herald Publishing House. R.L. and Betty started attending the East 39th St. Community of Christ congregation in 1962 where he had many different responsibilities over the years including serving as pastor and counselor to several pastors. He was a member of the High Priest Quorum. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Betty, two daughters, Kelly Sue Williams and Kenneth, Julie Ann Moore and Bradley, four grandchildren, Justin Moore and Jill, Tucker Moore, Madeline Moore, Megan Williams, and great granddaughter Harper Sue Moore, and one aunt, Irma Ruth Minton DeWitt, and special cousins Gary Minton and Mary, and Connie Minton Schmutz. One of his great joys was his daughters and their accomplishments as well as watching the grandchildren progress on their life’s journey and being confident that they all were all going to become good responsible adults with great potential. His most recent joy was seeing his great granddaughter, Harper Sue Moore. The family wishes to thank the Season’s Care Center and the Groves Community Hospice for the wonderful care for their loved one.
