Karen Mitchell, 81, of Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018. A visitation will be held from 12-1pm on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. A service will follow at 1pm at the chapel. She will be laid to rest at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
Karen was born on April 9, 1937 in Pottsville, PA to Karl and Mable (Hughes) Evans. Her family moved to Florida during her high school years where she graduated North Miami High. Karen and Edward Mitchell were married on August 12, 1972. Karen worked for 37 years for Southern Bell, where she earned many leadership awards before her retirement. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, traveling and making Sunday dinners for her family. She loved her children and grandchildren more than anything.
Karen was extremely witty, had an outgoing personality and she made an impression upon everyone whom she crossed paths. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 46 years: Ed Mitchell, Sr of Independence, MO; son Kenneth Nelson and wife Georgia of Castaic, CA; daughter Kimberly Pelfrey of Kingston, GA; son Ed Mitchell, Jr. of Independence, MO; daughter Katherine Romo and husband Tony of Grain Valley, MO; grandchildren Jeremy Baker, Chase Baker, Connor Mitchell, Callie Mitchell, Aubrey Mitchell, Anthony Mitchell, Anna Romo, Abbey Romo, Sophie Romo, and Parker Nelson; niece Shelley Justin and husband Rocky; plus several other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by 5 siblings.
