Wanda Lee Mitchell (Elliott)

Wanda Lee Mitchell, 88, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 12pm-3pm at Weatherby Lake Community Center, 8230 NW Potomac Ave, Kansas City, MO 64152. Wanda was one of three children born to Reuben and Edith (Keller) Elliott on March 23, 1931 in Kansas City, MO. She spent much of her childhood in the Ozarks, that is, until her junior year of high school, when the family relocated to Independence. It was there she met her future husband, Donald Mitchell. After graduating, she and Donald married in 1950 and soon started a family, eventually having five children. The family moved to rural Jackson County in 1969, where they built the family home together. Wanda loved to read, talk politics, play her keyboard, work jigsaw puzzles, and spend time with her grand and great grandchildren. Wanda is survived by her five children, Debbie (Steve) Leslie, Edie (Dave) Edwards, Jeff Mitchell, Jennie (Donny) Lutjen, and Susie Mitchell; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; both parents; and two brothers.
