John Eldon Monty, 75 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019 at his residence. Cremation is planned with a Memorial Mass to be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a rosary at 10:30 until service time at the church. Donations may be made in his name to St. Mark’s Catholic Church. John was born February 25, 1944 in Salina, KS to Eldon and Dorothy (Whitehair) Monty. He grew up in Salina and graduated from Sacred Heart High School and later from Oklahoma State School of Technology in Okmulgee, OK. John had worked for Lake City Ammunition Plant, later Remington Arms for over 30 years. He was a car enthusiast and an avid KC Chiefs fan. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church where he was an usher and member of the singles group. He is survived by; 5 sisters, Kathleen Hlavacek and husband John of Overland Park, KS, Patricia Butler and husband Tom of West Linn, OR, Carol Nowak and husband Len of St. Peters, MO, Jane Wise and husband John of Tucker, GA and Mary Kauffman of Hesston, KS; a special friend, Geraldine Herzog of Independence, MO; 9 nieces and nephews, 16 great nieces and nephews and 2 great great nephews.
