Steven Lynn Mooers, 64 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Centerpoint Medical Center from heart complications. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will follow at noon, Friday in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Friday at the chapel. Donations may be made in his name to the American Stoke Foundation or to the American Heart Association. Steve was born March 28, 1948 in Iowa City, IA to Wayne and Gertie (Watne) Mooers. He had worked for many years at Sysco of Olathe and had made many friends there before he retired. He enjoyed playing golf and NASCAR. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Lila Marie (Schoen) for over 44 years and they had three wonderful children, Steven W. Mooers and wife Crystal of Blue Springs, MO, Brent D. Mooers and wife Wendi of Independence, MO and Troy M. Mooers (Ginger) of Metairie, LA; mother, Gertie "Bernice" Mooers; four brothers, Bruce Mooers and wife Sherry of Nebraska, Denny Mooers and wife Sue and Larry Mooers and wife Sandy all of Iowa and Bill Mooers and wife Jerri of Nebraska; a sister, Sue Wilson of Iowa; he was a proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren, Scott Mooers, Christina Mooers, Janelle Mooers, Mercedes Mooers, Austin Krantz, Taylor Mooers, Skye Mooers, Trenton Mooers, Cloey Mooers, Garret Mooers and Braeden Mooers and one great granddaughter, Elianna Blackmon-Mooers and his favorite girl, besides his wife, his dog Queenie. Steven had a very large family that loved him deeply and will miss him tremendously which includes his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins along with his in-laws.
