Rastus Oral "R.O.� Moore, 86, of Independence, died October 4, 2006. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Interment will follow in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. Mr. Moore was born in Ripley County, Missouri near Naylor on February 10, 1920 the son of William Rastus and Carrie (Patton) Moore. Rastus will be remembered as a man who loved his family, enjoyed his grandchildren, watching children play, and loved to help his neighbors. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his yard. Mr. Moore was a charter member of the El-Bethel Baptist Church in Belton where he had been a head usher, greeter and deacon. He enjoyed Christian music. Rastus was retired in 1982 from the Kansas City Star after 22 years of service. He married Emma V. Surlet in Advance, Missouri on September 10, 1938. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Bobbie O. Moore and wife Beverly J. of Independence, Charles W. Moore and wife Donna of Belton, Mo., a daughter Janice Darlene Richardson and husband Roy of Kearney, Mo., one brother Charles Omar "Bud� Moore of Naylor, Mo., four grandsons, four granddaughters, 14 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Wayne Moore on February 22, 1972. Memorial contributions may be in his memory to the El-Bethel Baptist Church, 709 Herschel, Belton, Mo. 64012.
