Richard D. Moore, 83, of Independence, Mo, passed away, Monday, July 7, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Cremation is planned with a memorial mass to be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 10, 2014 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Inurnment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m., until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Richard was born in Gas, KS to Howard and Hazel (Close) Moore and graduated from Iola High School in 1948. He worked as a meat cutter for Kroger’s, Schnucks and United Supers until he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Meat cutter’s Union Local #2 and St. Mark’s Catholic Church. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Marilyn Lackey September 29, 1956 and she survives of the home. Other survivors include; 2 sons, Kenneth Moore and wife Cynthia and Ronald Moore all of Independence, MO; 2 daughters, Peggy Petroni of Louisville, KY and Cynthia Hartley and husband Mark of Warsaw, MO; 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lynn Moore in 1959, his parents and a brother, Jerry Moore.
