Lucien A. Moreels, 87 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Riverside Place in St. Joseph, MO. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Thursday at the chapel. Donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. Lucien was born May 29, 1930 in Ghant, Belgium to Henry and Clementine Moreels. He and his family suffered through the German occupation of Belgium and he served in the Belgium Army at a young age. He later moved to the US and worked for over 50 years as a bricklayer. He owned his own company, L & M Masonry and had also worked for D&M Masonry until he retired in 1995. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Bricklayers Union Local #4. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Survivors include; 2 sons, Henry Moreels and wife Louise of Blue Springs, MO and Dave Moreels and wife Brenda of Stewartsville, MO; 2 sisters, Maria Moreels and Marie Moreels both of Belgium; a brother, Roger Moreels of Belgium; 8 grandchildren, Kellen Moreels, Amanda Brown, Andrew Clifton, Cody Moreels, Dylan Moreels, Casey Stallbaumer, Melissa Stallbaumer and Julie Stallbaumer and 6 great grandchildren, Tanner, Autumn, Alania, Paisley, Hailey and Norah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora in 2015, a daughter, Linda Clifton and a brother and sister in law.
