Rena Morgan, of Independence, MO passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the Medical Center of Independence, following a fall at her home. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO. The service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 409 N. Liberty, Independence, MO. Burial at Mound Grove Cemetery. There will be a luncheon reception in the Parish Hall of Trinity Church following the Burial. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Trinity Episcopal Church, St. Mary�s Catholic High School Scholarship Fund, or the Animal Shelter, 875 Vista Dr., Independence, MO. Rena was born on January 1, 1912, the daughter of Joseph Grant Morgan and Laura Wilson Morgan. Rena was active in her church where she belonged her entire life. As a teenager she taught Sunday School, was active in the Young People�s Fellowship, assisted with yearly Banzaars and garage sales. She was an active member of the Altar Guild for over 60 years. During Father Lembcke�s tenure, Rena joined her sister and husband (Peggy and Ron Colter) hosting numerous Christmas Altar Guild dinners at their home. During the Depression she worked at the Jackson County Log Cabin, distributing food supplies for those in need. She traveled to outlying counties to take bulk dry goods to women who volunteered to make dresses. Several years later she was a secretary at the Independence Chamber of Commerce. Rena was a graduate of St. Mary�s High School at the age of 15. Then she attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee. Rena received her BA degree in history in 1954 at the University of Kansas City (Now University of Missouri at Kansas City). After attending night classes at the Law School of UMKC she received the Juris Doctorate degree in 1966. She taught law classes for several semesters at William Jewel College, Liberty, MO. She was a secretary at Equitable Assurance Company in Kansas City for some years. She retired from Sinclair Refining Company (Atlantic Richfield) after 20 years as a secretary in the Legal Department. She also took great enjoyment in her membership with the DBA (Daughters of British Empire). She was active assisting in annual fairs at various booths and teas. Rena enjoyed serving as secretary and treasurer for Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority. She also volunteered as a tutor for three years for the Laubach Reading Program. Rena was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Laura Morgan; and sister-in-law, Enid Griggs Morgan. She is survived by her sister, Marguerite (Peggy) Colter; a brother, Grant Wilson Morgan; a niece, Sandra Aline Morgan; a nephew, William Grant Colter; numerous cousins in Ontario, Canada, British Columbia, and Pheonix Arizona, where many wonderful vacations were enjoyed.
