Samuel E. Morton, 78 of Independence, MO passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, December 12, 2022. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2022 at the New Salem Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2-4:00 p.m., Sunday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Sam was born on March 1, 1944 in Stilwell, OK to Sterling and Cleta (Swepston) Morton. He was one of 13 of children. He moved to Independence, MO when he was 17 and went to work at Firestone, retiring after 48 years of service. Sam married the love of his life on April 10, 1969 and together they raised 6 children. His life revolved around his family, friends and home. Always ready to lend a helping hand, from auto repairs to building houses. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. Nothing made him happier than the entire family piling in for the holidays and celebrations. He has left a huge hole in our lives that can never be filled. He was a true patriarch, always ready to listen and dole out sound advice. Left forever to cherish his memory is; his loving wife of 53 years, Lawanna of the home; daughter, Lanna Andrews and husband Tim, son, Danny Allen and wife Dawn, son, Tracy Allen and wife Jackie, daughter, Lisa Morton, daughter, Deanna Elkins and husband Bryce, daughter, Samantha Evans and husband Dwayne and a bonus son, Phil Weyant and wife Michelle. Sam also leaves 27 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, a special friend, Doug McCrorey and his wife Jeannie, 2 sisters, a brother and sister-in-law Trudy McKenzie.
