Florence Maxine Mullins, 93, of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Florence, known affectionately as “Grandma Moon” was born June 21, 1921 to George and Frances (Baker) Gruber in Leavenworth, KS. She was united in marriage to Ralph “Moon” Mullins in 1938 and resided in St. Joseph before relocating to Independence where they opened their business, Mullins Body Shop, in 1952. Florence was active in the day to day operation of the business as well as the bookkeeper. Florence, along with her husband were very active in the Heart of America Carnival Glass Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, son Ronald Lee Mullins, daughter in law Karen, and 6 siblings. Survivors include; son Jerry Mullins and wife Sherri; grandchildren Kimberly Shultz (Jeff), Garry Mullins, Steve Mullins (Cheryl), Kirk Mullins, Dana Young (Edward), Wendy Aranda; 15 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service, starting at 9:00 am, at the chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
