Ronald Munson

Ron Munson, 73, of Independence, MO passed away August 1, 2017. A visitation will be held from 9-11am at on Monday, August 7, Kansas City Church 7700 N. Church Rd, Liberty, MO, 64158. A service will follow at 11am at the church. Interment will take place at 2:30pm at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Ron was born August 27, 1943 to Marion and Lillie Munson in Belmond, IA. He married Kay Yates on 6/3/1967, to this union they had 3 children: Susan (David) Schutz, Ronda (Ted) Shepard, and Dean (April) Munson.

Kay preceded him in death on 3/8/2004.

He married LaVeta West on 9/3/2005 and added 3 children to the family: Chuck (Candy) West, Sherene (Bill) West-Butler, and Kenneth (Beth) West. He has 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters Verginia “Ginny” Thomas and Marlas (Donnie) Harang, plus several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Susan and son-in-law David Schutz, brother-in-law Dennis Thomas and one grandchild Jason Jinkins.

He graduated from East High School in 1961 in Waterloo, IA.

Ron was a 21 year Air Force Veteran, retiring in 1983. He was called into ministry in 1967. He received his Master of Theology on 5/23/1986. He continued to work as a pastor and district secretary treasurer for 23 years retiring from the district office in May 2016. He continued as Pastor at Gospel Lighthouse until his death. He loved spending time with his family, playing games, joking, and laughing.
