Edward S. Murray, 81, of Independence, MO, went home to be with Jesus on March 1, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was born February 18, 1941, in Fulton, NY, to Edward and Edith Murray. He moved to Independence in 1951. He graduated from Wm. Chrisman High School in 1959, and was a member of ROTC. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Ed loved people, cars, computers, woodworking, and gardening. He was quite the storyteller and an avid collector of all things.
He worked at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 34 1/2 years and retired in 2000. He was a faithful attendee of Abundant Life, Lee’s Summit campus.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 21 for 29 years. He was the adjutant for 12 years and also did their monthly newsletter. Ed was also newsletter editor for the Cadillac Club and the ACC of Kansas City.
He was the beloved husband of his wife Margaret of nearly 57 years; loving father to daughter Lisa Boecker of West Allis, WI, and son Sean (Jaye) Murray of Harrisonville, MO; proud grandfather of four grandsons - Elijah and Caleb Boecker, and Zachary and Jaxson Murray; big brother to sister Portia Surprise, and uncle to three nephews and two nieces. Ed leaves behind friends too numerous to mention and will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street South, Independence, MO from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 6th. Funeral services will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel Monday, March 7th at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO.
