Doris Laraine Nelson, 63, of Independence, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at her home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 4, at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Doris was born May 27, 1940 to Domingo and Deloris Limas, in Albany, CA. She attended high school in El Cerrito, CA,; and later attended Graceland College in Lamoni, IA; in 1960 and 1961. Doris always put others first. Many of her friends soon were adopted as family. She was the best mother, and grandmother. She was dedicated to her church, Jesus Christ and her family. Doris loved to play softball, and Bunko. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Grant Nelson, of the home; four sons, Michael Nelson, and wife Judy, Eaton, CO.; Jeffrey Nelson, Salem, OR; Bobby Nelson and wife Laurie, Brighton, CO; Stephen Nelson, Thornton, CO; two brothers, Don Limas, Walnut Creek, CA; Dave Limas, Moraga, CA; special grandparents, John and Margaret Varvaro, Columbia, MO; and six grandchildren.
