Larry Reed Nelson, 74, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021. Larry was born July 24, 1947, in Sedalia, MO to Raymond and Maydean (Reed) Nelson. Larry proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a farmer on his family farm in Pettis County and drove for Burkholders Propane for many years. Before retirement, he was a truck driver for the Pettis County Highway Department.
Larry loved old cars and strong coffee. He loved his dogs and horses and watching Western movies as loud as he could. He didn’t know a stranger. Larry would talk to anybody about anything at any time. Most of all, Larry loved his grandkids and great grandkids. They brought him so much joy.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janet Parker.
He leaves behind his children, Emily (Gary) Summers, Christina Smith, Larry Nelson, Jr. and Joe (Jaylla) Nelson; grandchildren, Shelby Wooden, Bethany Sowash, Ariel Harrelson, Jordan Johnson, Ashley Simmons, Damien Nelson, Karlie Jo Summers, River Nelson, Zara Nelson, Samantha Nelson, Rylie Blankenship, and Jacob Nelson; 8 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Wanda McKeehan; Ona (Floyd) Dickson and Gary Nelson.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
