Lynna Lee Nelson

November 12, 1939 — January 1, 2022

Lynna L. Nelson passed away on January 1, 2022 in Liberty, Missouri at the age of 82.

First and foremost, Lynna was unrivaled as a loving and dedicated mother. She deeply loved her brother and sister and their families. She was generous in love, time, and charity. She was a beautiful young lady who had a tom-boy side. She was independent and was proud that she could take care of herself and do most anything.

Her glowing smile and genuine care of others was loved by everyone she met, and she rarely knew a stranger. Lynna had a great love of animals and nature, having seven beloved dogs, two raccoon's and two rabbits during her life, and caring for the birds and squirrels and any other creature which happened to frequent her yard. She was an avid gardener, spending many hours tending her plants and garden, and had belonged to the Independence Garden Club. She loved fishing and boating. Lynna belonged to Eastgate Chapter 367 Order of the Eastern Star where her husband Bob was a Mason, and to the Ararat Shrine Temple Harem unit.

She was born in, grew up, and lived most of her life in Independence, MO, loving the closeness to her family and friends. During her first marriage as a diplomat’s wife, she traveled and lived across the world, residing for extended periods in New Delhi India, Kabul Afghanistan, Banbury England, Moscow USSR, and numerous other travels. There is no way her amazing life can fully or adequately be described or summed up in the span of a single page. She will be greatly loved, missed, and never forgotten by all that knew her.

She is survived by her Son Scott Lindsey (Kathy), Step-Son Michael Nelson (Susan), Brother Ronald Thompson (Beverly), Sister Vickie Marlatt (Rick), Nephews: Douglas Thompson (Belinda), and Kirk Thompson (Amy), Great Nephews: Kyle Thompson (Trisha), Daniel Thompson, Kourtney Thompson, and Holly Thompson, GG-Nephew Declan Thompson, Step-Grand Children Jameson Stukes (Elizabeth), and Emily Finley (Shawn), and many cousins and other family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Nelson, first husband Lawrence Lindsey, Father Roy Thompson, Mother Lena Marlatt, Step-Father Virgil Marlatt, and Step-Mother Hazel Thompson.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Lynna’s memory to Wayside Waifs Animal Shelter, 3901 Martha Truman Rd., Kansas City, MO 64137, 816-761-8151. Https://waysidewaifs.org
