Mildred Louise (Ginnings) Nesbitt was born January 1, 1942. She passed away on May 5, 2023, at the age of 81 in Independence, MO. She was born in Eldridge, MO and was the first child of Edward and Evalena (Grimes) Ginnings. After her father returned from serving overseas in World War II, the family moved to Urbana, Kansas City, Parkville, Independence, Decaturville MO and Davenport IA. In 1956, the family settled on a farm near Hermitage, MO where she attended school. In 1960, she married Bob Nesbitt in Independence. Millie and Bob owned and operated Bob’s Conoco on Noland Road in Independence for 35 years, prior to retiring. They have one son, Edward (Butch) Nesbitt.
Millie completed 4 trips to the Holy Land and enjoyed sharing her experience and knowledge with others. She was active in her community, which included serving as PTA President. Millie also served on the Independence City Council at Large for 2 consecutive terms from 1982 - 1990. During her time on the City Council, she was active in negotiations, planning and acquisitions of the Vaile Mansion and Trail Museum Projects. Millie loved to decorate for Christmas. Their home was a featured part of the Independence MO Christmas tours for several years.
Millie is survived by her husband Bob, son Butch Nesbitt and his wife Debbie of Independence MO. Three grandchildren: Jacque Frederickson and her husband Tyler of Independence, MO, Amanda Lang and her husband Chris of Greenwich, CT, and Bradley Nesbitt and his wife Moriah of Independence, MO, as well as several great grandchildren. Three sisters: Kathy McKinnon, Linda Sowers, Jean Wood (Bob), two brothers: Don Ginnings (Kathy) and Bill Ginnings, a sister-in-law Diane Ginnings and several nieces, nephews and their families. Millie was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Ginnings (Diane) and a sister, Janet Logan.
Millie was saved at age 12 at Urbana Baptist Church and remained active in church work for the rest of her life. At the time of her death, she was a member of Country Meadows Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held May 12, 2023, 5pm Visitation and 6pm Service at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, MO. Graveside services and burial will be held May 20, 2023, 11am in the Nemo Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
