JoAnn “Joni” Neurohr (Dowdy), 63, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away Tuesday evening the 30th of November 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long battle against breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family in her final moments and was enveloped in love and appreciation.
Joni was born on the 17th of July 1958 in Flint, Michigan, where she lived the majority of her life. She passionately served the community in her career as a sonographer and x-ray technologist. She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and always made them feel comfortable. The relocation of her children and birth of her grandchildren led her to Kansas City, Missouri, where she lived for the last nine years of her life. She felt the support of those near and far during her courageous battle against breast cancer. Joni lived her life to the fullest until her tired body could not continue on any longer. She was always ready for a party, volunteering to help someone in need, or lending a listening ear to family and friends. Her legacy will be lived out through those who knew and cared for her.
Joni is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Dennis Neurohr, her two children Michelle Middleton (and Jason) of Independence, Missouri, and James Neurohr (and Ashley) of San Antonio, Texas, and three grandchildren, Beau, John, and Emily. She also leaves behind her four brothers, Charles Dowdy, David (and Cinda) Dowdy, Doug Dowdy, and James Dowdy, as well as Dennis’s siblings, Michael (and Jody) Neurohr, Robin Turner, and Tammy (and Carl) Yorks, and many nieces and nephews. Joni is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Delphine Dowdy, and the parents of Dennis, John and Corrine Neurohr.
At Joni’s request, cremation has taken place and memorial services will take place in Kansas City on the 13th of March, and in Michigan in mid-July for her friends and family. A date will be provided at a later time for the Michigan event.
She will always be considered an incredible wife, mother, and sister, and leaves the lives that she was a part of full of love and brighter for having known her.
