Marie S. Nichols, 92, Lee’s Summit, MO passed away April 9, 2014. Services will be 10 am Sat., April 12 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence MO 64052. Visitation will begin at 8:30 am before the service at the chapel. A private committal service will follow at a later date. Contributions are requested to The Carlyle Retirement Community, 1098 N.E. Independence Avenue, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086. Marie was born Aug. 3, 1921 in Cerro Gordo, TN. As a young mother she endured moving every couple of months with her family until settling in the Kansas City area. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were school age. She then joined the workforce and worked at Permatex in the Fairfax District of Kansas City, KS for eighteen years until her retirement in 1988. She was an expert seamstress and tailor and also enjoyed gardening her roses and vegetables. She was a Baptist and a very strong woman of faith. She was a member of the Teamsters. She loved the mountains - especially Estes Park, CO. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Bill Nichols; sisters Betty Sue Stutts, Arby Smith and brother E.V. Stutts. She is survived by son Ronnie Nichols, Lexington, TN; daughters Linda Kay Helmick and husband Dan, Leawood, KS; Deborah Millican and husband Ron, Lee’s Summit, MO; sister Willie Kate McWilliams, Bella Vista, AR; brothers John Stutts and wife Joann, Arkansas; Gary Stutts and wife Theresa, Melbourne, FL; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
