Leon Carl Nieder

Leon Carl Nieder, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021. He was 72 years old.

A visitation will take place Saturday, September 4, 2021 between 9:00 - 10:00 am; with a funeral service to be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 4, 2021, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, Missouri 64055. Interment will follow services and will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, Missouri.

Leon was born on August 2, 1949 in Butler, Missouri to Leonard and Ellen (Kaufman) Nieder. He was the youngest of 4. After graduating from Butler High School, Leon went on to attend Central Missouri State University, his love for numbers earning him a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. On May 21, 1976, Leon married the love of his life Donna Carrender, from their union came 3 children.

Leon was a kind and gentle man who loved people and was always smiling. He enjoyed music of all genres but particularly favoring the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Leon was an extremely hard worker, and he loved the Lord with all he had. Most of the time you could find him in a ball cap unless he was at church or the dining table. Leon liked all sports, but his very favorite was baseball, growing up as young boys do, dreaming of pitching in the big leagues, always rooting for the underdogs, his favorite teams were the Detroit Lions and Tigers. His main focus though in life, besides his faith, was his family. Leon was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather, never letting anyone doubt his love for them. He will be greatly missed but we know he is with the Lord and his beloved Donna.

Leon is survived by his children, Travis (Ariana) Nieder, Nicole (Stephen) Jeffers, Joanna (Anthony) Freeman; grandchildren, MaGarrett Kubach, AJ Freeman; siblings, Raymond Nieder, Ella Laughlin; many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Ellen Nieder; sibling, Leonard “Junior” Nieder; and his wonderful wife of 32 years Donna (Carrender) Nieder.
