Nina Lorraine (nee French) Cope passed away at her home in Independence, Missouri on July 13, 2024. Nina, formerly of Jena, Louisiana was proceeded in death by her parents Verlous Jacob French and Iva Lena (nee Windham) French. Her sister, Amanda Gayle Palmer resides in Minden, Louisiana with her husband, Paul. Her sister Karen Elizabeth French resides in Chapin, South Carolina.
Nina met Kenneth Julian Cope in Columbia, Missouri in 1970. The couple were married in Jena, Louisiana on August 14, 1971. After briefly living in Columbia, the couple has continuously made their residence in the Kansas City area. After graduation from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Nina secured employment with the Missouri Department of Family Services. She later moved to the Missouri Division of Investigations where she investigated welfare and Medicare fraud in the state. She retired in 2004 and enjoyed herself looking after family, reading, and doing word puzzles and volunteering with The American Red Cross, Kansas City Chapter.
Nina gave birth to two daughters. Emily Lorraine Carlson was born in 1982 and resides in Maryland Heights, Missouri with her husband, Barak, and their two children: Isabel Lorraine Carlson (8) and Levi Clifford Carlson (6). Emily is employed teaching 5th grade reading in St. Charles, Missouri. Amanda Elise Hall was born 1985 and resides in Blue Springs, Missouri with her husband, Ryan, and two sons: Ryder Wesley Hall (11) and Kennedy James Hall (6). Amanda is an addiction counselor for the Missouri Department of Corrections in Kansas City.
Nina had a variety of interests in many things such as current events, real estate, and nature. She was a friend to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed. Her generous spirit continues in death with her donation of her corneas, so others might see the world she so loved.
A Celebration of Life event for Nina will be held on August 3rd from 10 AM to noon at the Stoney Creek Hotel at 18011 Bass Pro Drive in Independence, Missouri. Visitors will be asked to share, either personally or in a written submission, a story or observation about Nina. We hope you will join us in remembering her in this way.
