Betty Noe

January 3, 1922 — November 10, 2012

Betty Noe, 90, of Independence, MO, passed away Saturday, November 10th, 2012 at The Groves in Independence. A memorial visitation will be from 10-11a.m. on January 5th, 2013 followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., at Walnut Gardens Community of Christ, 19201 R.D. Mize Rd Independence. Inurnment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, MO.
Betty was born January 3rd, 1922 at the family farm in Bates County Missouri, six miles southeast of Butler, to Robert Jackson and Addie Belle (Hall) Lyle. She graduated from Butler High School in 1939 and married William Woodson “Bill” Noe in Kansas City, MO, on August 31, 1941. They lived in Butler MO, where they raised four children. Betty also worked in the family business, Noe’s Jewelry. After retiring in 1993, Bill and Betty moved to Independence. She was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ. Betty was an active volunteer in Butler including service with American Field Service, the Better Homes and Gardens’ Club, many youth organizations and as a trained volunteer for Bates County Hospice. She also supported the Butler Public Library and especially its Heinlein addition, which was named after science fiction author Robert Heinlein, her second cousin. She was a member of the Sierra Club, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and flower gardening.
She is survived by daughter, Nancy Hershey and husband Roger of Independence, MO; sons, Roger Noe and wife Janet of Blue Springs, MO; and Leslie Noe and wife Susan of Boulder, CO; sister-in-law, Margie Lyle of Prairie Village, KS; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and Pete Waterhouse of Flimwell, East Sussex, England, who Betty considered her English son since 1967, when he stayed with the family as he returned from an international Boy Scout Jamboree in Idaho. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lila Lyle; Norma (Lyle) Ray and her husband Homer; and Ethel Lyle; a brother, Robert Lynn Lyle; Betty’s husband Bill; and her daughter Carol Sue (Noe) Williams.
