Martin Eugene "Marty" Norris

September 16, 1943 — November 25, 2021

Martin E. “Marty” Norris, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 25, 2021.
Marty was born to Richard and Opal Norris on September 16, 1943 in Jackson County.
After high school Marty enlisted in the United States Navy in 1961. He proudly served for many
years. Afterwards, Marty landed a career with Coast to Coast stores. After his marriage to
Raetta, he started work with the Department of Agriculture and devoted over 19 years to the
company before retiring in 2003. He was a hard worker, a devoted father, husband and friend.
He loved people and never knew a stranger. He’d often visit local truck stops and cafes and sit
there for hours on end just to chat and meet new people while they were passing through.
Marty enjoyed fishing wherever the fish were biting, a good game of poker, watching high
school football, Kansas City Chiefs football and Kansas City Royals and a good cup of coffee. He
even coached baseball for 13 years. Marty’s favorite holiday was the fourth of July when he
could gather with his family and light up the night. His kind smile and outgoing spirit will be
missed greatly by his family and friends.
Marty is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Raetta Norris of the home; daughter, Tina
Gallego; sons, Anthony Norris and Trevor Norris; 2 brothers, John Norris of Buckner MO and
Harold Art Thompson of Overland Park KS.; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, many
nieces and nephews.
He’s preceded in death by sisters Carol Adair, Kathleen Peters, Beatrice Clark and brothers
Robert Norris Sr, Charles Thompson, Kenneth Thompson.
Marty said more than once to his grand-daughter, Araca, “No matter if they’re gone, they will
always be with you, no matter where you go.”
There will be no funeral service per Marty’s wishes. Military honors at Leavenworth KS to be
scheduled at a later date.
