Michael J. “Mike” O’Connor, 67, Independence, MO passed away March 5, 2009 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be 2 pm, Monday, March 9 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; interment at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the American Heart Assoc.
Mike was born Sept. 4, 1941 in Kansas City, MO. He served as a Jackson County Corrections Officer from 1973 to 1998. He loved to bowl and along with his wife, Rita, bowled in leagues for many years in Independence. He also was a big football and baseball fan.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Patrick James (Pete) O’Connor, his mother Eleanor O’Connor; his brother Jim Littrell and his sister Shirley Doyal. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Rita, of the home; daughter Dedra Serda and husband Daniel; Kansas City, KS; sons Douglas Michael O’Connor, Raytown, MO; Jason Burec and wife Thresea, Carrollton, MO; daughters Jill Dykstra and husband Mike; Jackie Burec, all of Independence, MO; brother Jack Littrell, St. Charles, MO; sisters Mary Ann Croker and husband Robert, Lenexa, KS; Margaret Tierney and husband Joe, Independence, MO; brother John P. O’Connor and wife Cathy, Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law Robert Doyal; sister-in-law Lela Littrell; grandchildren Jennifer Burec, Justin Burec, Richard Edmondson, Rita-Ann Edmondson, Michelle Gould, Cristian Serda, Serena Serda, Miranda Serda, Wesley Judy, Tamara Burec, Jason Burec, Jr.; great-grandsons Evan Williams and Garrett Burec; as well as many nieces and nephews.
