Betty Jean Olson-Brandvold (Christensen)

May 30, 1928 — September 12, 2021

Betty Jean Olson-Brandvold of Independence, MO, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021. She was 93 years old. Betty was born on May 30, 1928 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Raymond and Lela Christensen. Betty graduated from Cameron, MO high school; lettering in three sports and was active in theatre and student council. Betty married the love of her life, Ole V. Olson on December 28, 1947 and lived in Astoria, Oregon til they relocated and settled in Independence, MO. They were married 51 ½ years before his death on May 29, 1999. Betty worked as a lead teller at the First National Bank for years before graduating from hairdressing school after which she owned and operated her own Beauty Salon in her home serving her church and community for almost 30 years. The family were members of the Community of Christ faith and their home congregation was Village Heights. Betty and Ole loved to travel in their Airstream and have visited numerous National Forest Parks all over the south, west and northern states. Betty was an awesome cook and was known for her homemade cinnamon rolls, bread and pies. A couple of years after the loss of Ole, Betty’s travels continued in her own mini motorhome spending winters in AZ where she met and married Orbin Brandvold, her second husband, whom she continued to travel the country within their motorhome; summers to the mountains, and winters to warm AZ. After 14 years traveling full-time, they decided it was time to un-hitch and they moved into a duplex in Grain Valley, prior to moving to the Fountains of Greenbriar in June 2020. Betty enjoyed watching sports, especially her KC ROYALS and KC CHIEFS! She was a beautiful, sweet, compassionate, loving Mom and grandma and will be sorely missed. Betty is survived by her husband, Orbin Brandvold, her children, Steve Olson and Sharon Wilson, her grandchildren, Samantha Myers and Kyle Wilson and her sister, Shirley Schoff. Visitation and a memorial service will be on Saturday, September 18th starting at 1:00 p.m., and memorial service at 2:00 p.m., at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, MO.
