Mardell Avon Olson, 90 of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Independence, MO. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 5, 2012 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to the The Bingham Waggoner Historical Society; P.O. Box 1163, Independence, MO 64051. Mardell was born May 28, 1922 in Knob Noster, MO to Clarence L. and Birdie Pearl (Reine) Redfield and has lived in Independence since 1925 graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1940. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed quilting, church school teaching, flowers and girls work. She and her husband owned and operated Olson Plumbing in Independence for many years. She was a member of the Community of Christ, Gudgell Park congregation and enjoyed cooking and setting up for church events. She was also a member of the Church Women United and had volunteered at the Bingham Waggoner Estate. She was married to Elmer E. Olson on June 2, 1946; he preceded her in death on March 20, 1999. Survivors include; 2 daughters, Janet West and her husband Al of Holden, MO and Twyla Olson-Hahn and her husband Michael of Independence, MO; 2 sisters, Wilma Warnock and Inis Hitchcock both of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren, Peter Hahn, Rachel Hahn-Koppe, James West, Sarah Faulkner, Lauren Olson and Richard Olson; a great grandson, Benjamin West and her faithful and loving dog, Zena. She was also preceded in death by a son E. Carl Olson in 1997, a brother, Wesley H. Redfield in 1940 and a sister, Lilly Beth Hanson in 1996.
