Phyllis Darlene Olvera, 87, passed away on February 13, 2016. A visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, from 11-1pm at Speaks, 18020 E. 39th St with burial at 2pm Friday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
Phyllis was born on September 2, 1928, in Moberly, MO, to Kenneth Marion and Lillian Gladys (Walker) Kitchen. She graduated from Carrollton High School in the class of 1947. It was in high school that she met Joseph Juventino Olvera, and they married in January of 1948 - to this union were born two sons, David Patrick and Eric Christopher. In addition to raising her family, she also worked as a Nurse, Olan Mills Photography Studio, Montgomery Ward, and Hallmark Cards. She loved planting flowers, quilting, oil painting and reading her Bible.
Survivors include her sons, David Olvera (wife, Jewel) and Eric Olvera (wife, Rogilyn); four grandchildren, Christopher Dean Olvera, Elizabeth Darlene Olvera- Lipe, Jason Daniel Olvera, and Christopher Juventino Olvera; two great-grandsons, Joshua David Olvera and Walker Dean Lipe; sisters, Betty Orsak (husband, Frank), Beverley Nissen and several nieces, nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Joseph “Tino” Olvera; and brothers, Kenneth Marion Kitchen Jr., Thomas William Kitchen, and Richard E. Kitchen.
