Wilburn Leroy O’Neal, 88, Independence, MO passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014.
Wilburn was born October 4, 1926 in Yocum, AR the son of Fred and Iva Pearl (Callen) O’Neal. He entered the military as a Merchant Marine and was later discharged from the U.S. Army. Wilburn was a sheet metal worker with the Local Union #2 for over 35 years. Wilburn was assistant Scout Leader for over 17 years where his three sons obtained Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Missouri Gem and Mineral Association the Missouri Bee Keepers Association and Good Sams Club (KC Wagoneers). Wilburn enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.
Survivors include his loving wife Helen O’Neal of 67 years; children and their spouses, Fred O’Neal (Sandra), Gale O’Neal (Amy), Abbie Rennison (Robert) and Doyle O’Neal (Marlene); 12 grandchildren, Tina, Jeff, Josh, Stacy, Jennifer, Matt, Michael, Pattie, Luke, Maggie, Tim and Mary; 15 great grandchildren, Kaylea, Allison, Emily, Nicolas, Kristopher, Austin, Owen, Alexus, Madison, Hannah, Stephen, Chloe, Lydia, Caleb, and Levi; and numerous nieces, nephews, and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clifton O’Neal; sisters, Lorene Leonard and Freda Ashburn.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery with Military Honors.
