Norman E. O’Quin, 91, Independence, MO passed away Sept 30, 2012. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church., 14506 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Committal service with Full Military Honors will be at 1 pm, Friday at Mt. Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Christ United Methodist Church.
Norman was born April 11, 1921 in Bloodland, MO. He joined the Navy during WW II and served on a mine sweeping submarine in Tokyo Bay during the war. He served in the Navy for thirty-two years spanning WW II, Korea and the Vietnam Wars. He earned his Masters degree from UMKC and served as a counselor for the Jackson County Circuit Court for seventeen years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of the church and of the Mighty Mine Dodgers Group. He enjoyed gardening and his grandchildren.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife Joan O’Quin in 2010. He is survived by daughters Margaret Arrowsmith and husband Harold; Nancy Bitler and husband Lee, all of Shawnee, KS; Ruth Ann Frank and husband Jim, Gilmer, TX; stepsons Jim Clayton and wife Elizabeth, Kansas City, MO; Kenneth Clayton and wife Carol, Lexington, KY; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
