Selina “Dida” Ormsby, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on May 27, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1416 SW 19th St.; Blue Springs, MO. Interment will follow at Brooking Cemetery in Raytown.
She was born to Oliver Cromwell Ormsby and Katherine Jane Borell on August 9, 1933 in Te Puna, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. The youngest of eight children (Eileen, Robert, William, George, Richard, Ada, Edna), Selina grew up on her family's farm during the depression and World War 2. Like her mother, Selina had an affinity for horses. She was also a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings throughout her lifetime. Even as a young girl, she accompanied her father, a branch president, on church business. She came to the United States in 1972, after working as a registered nurse, matron, and midwife in New Zealand. In the US, she continued to work in healthcare until retirement.
Her nieces and nephews recall “Aunty Dida” as energetic, highly intelligent, resourceful, articulate, quick-witted, and as someone who could and would face down the most formidable of foes in defense of her loved ones. When surrounded by those she loved, Selina was highly engaging and would flash her beautiful smile with a twinkle in her eye. She had the most pleasant speaking voice and a beautiful singing voice. Selina was known for her style, always accompanying her dress with suitable shoes, hat, gloves, purse, and coat or stole of choice.
Selina is preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Survivors include many nieces and nephews, including her sister Edna Ah Mu’s living children Louisa Thompson, Melba Ah Mu (Lynn), Oliver Ah Mu (Maria), and Joseph Ah Mu (Cindy), and many great nieces and nephews.
Selina loved her Heavenly Father and had faith that by virtue of the redeeming Atonement of her Savior Jesus Christ she will be reunited eternally with her beloved parents and siblings because family is forever. One day she will be enveloped in the everlasting love of her whanau (family) and tupuna (ancestors) forevermore.
