Margaret Osborn

October 5, 1925 — August 8, 2013

Margaret Lavina (Stowell) Osborn, 87 of Independence, MO passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO 64052. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Johnson Elementary School in the Hickman Mills School District or to the Meadowmere Elementary School in the Grandview School District.

She was born on October 5, 1925 in Estacada, OR to Benjamin and Sarah (Wagener) Stowell and moved to Independence, MO with her family when she was three years old. Margaret was married for 69 years to her husband Lloyd Thomas Osborn, whom she met when serving him a chocolate malt at the Tasty Ice Cream Parlor on the square in Independence, MO.

They were married on August 13, 1944 in the backyard of her sister Adeline Stinnett’s house in Sugar Creek, MO. She worked for Eva Krudop in Fairmount, MO with her dear friend Merta Lewis where they designed and made little girl’s pinafore dresses which were sold all over the United States. She then worked for Betty Resch Drapery and finally for Gillum Book Company until she retired in 1981.

Her family and friends were the most important things in her life. She was always there when she was needed by her family and friends offering her love, her strength and her support. We are all grateful for having known her and she will be missed deeply and will always be a part of our lives. She was a member of the Community of Christ.

She is survived by; her husband Lloyd Thomas Osborn; her daughter, Linda T. McDonald; two granddaughters, Sara Margaret McDonald and Carrie Anne McDonald and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John Stowell, Nathan Stowell, Frances Salu Stowell, Ira “Ike” Stowell and Samuel Stowell, and her sisters, Adeline (Stowell) Stinnett, Myrtle (Stowell) Thomas, Violet (Stowell) Greer and Marie (Stowell) Griffin.

The family wishes to thank the Fresenius Dialysis Center in Independence, MO for her care during the past four years. We also wish to thank the special ICU nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital in Lee’s Summit, MO for their palliative care and support.
