Kenneth Neal "Kenny" Osborne

Kenny passed away at his home on October 13, 2020. He was born on November 27, 1952, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Billy Eugene Osborne and Nadine Madeline (Winkler) Osborne. Kenny lived his early childhood years in Oklahoma, moving to the MO area with his family when he was eleven. Kenny was in Boy Scouts and played City League Baseball for several years. He was given an opportunity to play minor league, and although he loved baseball, he had to choose between the “love of the game” and earning a living. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1971 and lived in Independence his adult life, except for the years he served in the U.S. Navy.

On December 6, 1972, Kenny entered service for our Country in the U.S. Navy. Kenny served during the VietNam War from Norfolk, Virginia on the USS Trenton (LPD-14) and operation of a MK8 (landing craft). The Ship ported at several countries while on duty, Spain, Italy and England being among them. During his service he earned the following: Seaman, Boatswain’s Mate 2 & 3, Petty Officer 2 & 3, Water Transportation Occupations, (Assault Boat Coxswain) Certification, Navy E-5 Boatswain s Mate rating badge and National Defense Service Medal. Kenny was discharged BM3, E-5 Petty Officer, Honorable, November 20, 1978. Kenny was a member of The American Legion, Post No. 21, Independence, MO.

Kenny enjoyed riding his beloved 1959 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, deer hunting, fishing, and camping with his brothers and Billy. Kenny loved the Kansas City Royals Baseball Team and during baseball season, Kenny and his mother spent time on the telephone issuing their own special commentary for the previous night’s game. After Kenny’s service in the Navy, his career was spent working in the field of Heating and Air Conditioning, until retiring in 2012. He is now going to his Heavenly home to meet his Lord and join his predeceased family members and friends.

Kenny was preceded in death by his Father, his sister, Lila Jean, his two brothers, Steven & Terry, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Surviving Kenny, is his mother, Nadine (98), his spouse, Molly Goodwin-Osborne, of their home, life-long friend of fifty-four years and life-partners for the last twenty-five; Molly’s children, JR, LaDonna, Jason, and Marlana, whom all call him Dad Kenny, Molly’s thirteen grandchildren, whom call him Grandpa Kenny, his life long friend, Billy Lindberg & his wife, Cindy, his niece, Michaela Osborne and her son, Ryan Osborne, his niece, Julie Wuenschel and her husband, Jason, and their children, Andrew and Emily, his sister-in-law, Lynda Osborne, aunt Patsy Johnson and numerous cousins. Kenny had many other friends, too many to list, several who predeceased him.

Your sweet smile and “salty” sense of humor will be missed so very much.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 19, from 10-11am, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. A graveside service will full Naval honors will be at 1:30pm Monday at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, KS.
