Robert Lewis Oster was born December 31, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri to Vernon and Ruby Oster. Robert went home to the Lord on January 14, 2021. Robert was married to the love of his life, Mary Ann, for 63 years. Together, they had two daughters, Janet and Nancy. Robert was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughters. Robert graduated from Northeast High School in 1951, before starting college at University of Central Missouri. After attending one year at UCM, Robert was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country during the Korean War. After serving, he returned to UCM and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business. Robert was a manager at TG&Y in Independence, before becoming a foreman at Armco Steel. In Robert's free time, he enjoyed fishing and arrowhead hunting with his father-in-law, Burnis, and brother-in-law, Dale. Robert was also an avid sports fan but what he enjoyed most was watching his grandchildren play. He was their number one fan - never missing a game. Robert was also an active member in his church at Maywood Baptist Church. Robert was a giving man. He cared not only for the well-being of his family but for the well-being of others, as well, if someone ever needed a helping hand, he was there. You could always count on him. He also donated monthly to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Robert was also an organ donor. He was not only a gentle man; he was a gentleman. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ruby Oster; and two brothers, Donald and Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Oster; two daughters: Janet Jones and her husband, Al of Independence; Nancy Nelligan and her husband, Mike of Independence; his four grandchildren: Kyle Jones of Athens, AL; Tara Hoover and her husband, Jeremy of Blue Springs; Parker Jones and his wife, Jordan of Independence; and Hannah Nelligan of Independence. Robert was also survived by his six great-grandkids: Arabella, Harrison, Caroline, Cal, Hayes, and Landon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052 with burial to follow in Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Thursday at the chapel. All services will be held under current Covid-19 restrictions of 50 people maximum and masks are required.
