Otis Alvin Mulkey

June 18, 1943 — January 7, 2024

Independence, Missouri

Otis Alvin Mulkey, passed January 7, 2024 at home with his family in Independence Missouri. He was born June 18th, 1943 in Tulsa Oklahoma to Vernon H Mulkey and Martha L Mulkey (Fielder).

Throughout his life of accomplishments, he was most proud of his service in the United States Army where he served as a member of the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers. After his service he went on to his profession with Allis-Chalmers in Independence, where he was Master Machinist in building of Combines and other farming equipment. He completed 33 years of service before retiring.

Through the years he was very active with his hobbies one of which was obtaining his commercial pilot license as he loved airplanes. Beyond planes he also had an incredible obsession with high performance cars, of which he built several. He loved to race, and even confidently boasted having the fastest streetcar in Independence. Also, through the years he was an avid fisherman and loved CB radios (which for friends he erected more than 300 towers over the years).

In life his greatest passion was FAMILY. He loved all and would give the shirt off his back if it would help.

For his immediate family, the love of his life was Emma C. Mulkey his wife of 49 years. They were married on December 5th 1974. Through the union there are 4 children, Vern H Mulkey of Kansas City, Leslie M McIntyre and spouse of Independence, Linda M Small and spouse of Blue Springs and Brian D McDonough and spouse of Independence. The family extended to 32 beautiful grandchildren and an unbelievable combined extension of 33 great and great great grandchildren. His humor and his big smile will be missed forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jerry Wayne Mulkey. Otis resided in Independence for the last 50 years. As a youth he grew up in Broken Arrow Oklahoma and was a graduate of Tulsa High School.
