John Overman, 79, of Independence, MO passed away on December 22, 2006 at St. Mary�s Medical Center. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The service will follow at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel. Burial at Salem Cemetery. A lifelong resident of Independence, John graduated from William Chrisman High School, class of 1944. After serving in the Navy in World War II, he studied at William Jewell College and graduated from UMKC School of Pharmacy. A registered pharmacist, he owned and worked in various drug stores in Independence, Grain Valley, Lexington and Kansas City for over 50 years. John joined the Masonic lodge in 1953 and served as a president of the Eastern Jackson County Shrine Club, a member of the Ararat Temple, and a member of the Jesters, class of 1991. John was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mitzi, and by his son John Charles. He leaves behind his son James Overman, daughter-in-law Suzanne Persson Overman of Kansas City, his sister JoAnn Dickey of Leawood and cousin Eleanor Shafer of Independence. John was a great man and a loving father. He will be missed very much. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
