Norma N. Owen, 98, Independence, MO, formerly of Princeton, MO; passed away Feb. 14, 2018. Services will be 10 am, Monday, Feb. 19 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will begin at 9 am before the service at the chapel. Graveside services will follow at 3 pm at Princeton, Cemetery, Princeton, MO. Norma was born June 12, 1919 to Harlan and Cora (Moore) Melton in Princeton, MO and graduated from Princeton High School. She attended business school in Chillicothe. She was married to Victor Owen in 1940and they had one child, Vicki Leigh. Victor died in 1945 in Germany during WWII She worked most of her life as a secretary, working for Judge Lucian E. May. She later worked for the U.S. Farmer’s Home Administration and retired from there. She was 3rd in the Miss Missouri Pageant in 1937 and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and P.E.O. In 1949 she married A.B. (Bill) Owen. They were members of the First Baptist Church in Princeton where she was the choir director for many years and taught Sunday school. Recently she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Princeton. She loved her frineds & family and enjoyed golf, knitting, playing Bridge and dogs. She was a loving “Nana” to her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She loved God and trusted Jesus for her hope and salvation. She was a gracious lady loved by all who knew her and will be remembered for her ready smile.
Norma was preceded in death by husbands Victor Owen and A.B. Owen, brother Winton Melton, granddaughter Amy Briggs and son-in-law Duane Miller. She is survived by daughter Vicki Miller; grandson Christopher Miller and wife Amy, all of Independence, MO; grandson-in-law Dean Briggs and wife Jeanie, Kansas City, MO; great-grandchildren Branden Ramos and wife Toni; Alexa Smith and husband Tanner; Hanson Briggs and wife Savannah; Evan Briggs; Chandler Ramos; Jacob Ramos; Gatlin Briggs and Gage Briggs.
