Elnora Viola Palmer, 90 of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the Villages of Jackson Creek. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to the South Crysler Restoration Branch youth department, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or Outreach International. Elnora was born February 1, 1931, in Des Moines, IA, to Gomer Evan and Viola B. (Phillips) Maitland and has been a longtime area resident. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1949 and worked for the Internal Revenue Service for over 25 years before she retired. She enjoyed sewing, genealogy research and spending time with family. She was a member of the South Crysler Restoration Branch, Marguerite McNair Chapter of the DAR and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was a leader with the Campfire Girls and Orioles. She is survived by: 4 children, Paulette Baker Eubanks (Bennie) and Charles R. Palmer (Jennifer) all of Independence, MO, Sharon Palmer Hamm (Eric) of Joshua Tree, CA and Marjorie Palmer Mayo (Karl) of Independence, MO; 2 brothers, Samuel A. Maitland and J. Arthur Maitland both of Independence, MO; 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: husband, Paul K. Palmer, brother, Gomer Enoch Maitland and grandson, Jameson A. Piedimonte.
