Pamela Jean Pogson, known affectionately as “Pam,” peacefully passed away at home on August 11, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and care that will forever be remembered by those who knew her.
Pam was born on March 15, 1955, in Oklahoma City, OK, marking the beginning of a life that would be defined, above all else, by her unwavering commitment to others. Pam pursued her education diligently, eventually earning a Doctorate in Dental Surgery at the University of Missouri Kansas City. She then married Dr. George William “Bill” Pogson, III, who practiced cardiology.
She dedicated her career to helping patients, alleviating their pain and regaining their confidence. Pam proudly took part in dental mission trips to Jamaica and Kenya, areas with profound needs for her services. She shaped the lives of many through this work, far beyond the confines of her profession.
Outside of dentistry, Pam found joy in simple pleasures such as cooking, sewing, and spending time with family. Pam was a loyal partner to her husband, Bill. They loved to travel, listen to classical music, and work in the garden together. At the center of Pam’s world was her daughter, Catherine. The two shared an uncommon closeness and a relationship marked by deep dedication and abiding love. Pam’s grandchildren were a singular source of joy— bringing sweetness, sticky fingers, and joyful chaos into her life. She cherished the time spent with them as "Mimi," baking cookies, making crafts, and reading books. The memories they shared will continue to bring comfort and warmth for years to come.
As someone who enjoyed taking care of others, Pam’s glioblastoma diagnosis required her to accept help rather than give it. Through this process, she passed her nurturing spirit onto others. Those closest to Pam in her last year witnessed the great difficulty of the disease. However, routine visits from grandchildren, close friends, and relatives gave her purpose. There were very few days where she did not have company.
To honor Pam, a Memorial Service will be held on August 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Lee's Summit, MO, immediately followed by an informal reception. This will be a time to celebrate her life, legacy, and the impact she had on those around her.
Pam is survived by her faithful husband, Dr. George William “Bill” Pogson, III; devoted daughter, Catherine Lewis (Andrew Lewis); grandchildren, Vivienne and Christian Lewis; step-daughter, Corrie Rothman (David Rothman); grandson, Henry Rothman; and her father, James (Jim) Caldwell; She is also survived by her dear siblings (Julie and Jim Caldwell Jr.), sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Knop (Kevin Knop), nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who meant the world to her. Pam was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Jean Caldwell; father-in-law, Dr. George William Pogson, II; and mother-in-law, Mary Estelle Pogson.
Pam's memory will live on as a beacon of kindness and compassion in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Pam’s honor to the Woods Chapel United Methodist Church – Mission Fund.
