Lucena E. “Cindy” (Burns) Panek, 91, of Kansas City, MO passed away Friday, January 22, 2016. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Friday, January 29th at St. Thomas More Church (STM); 11822 Holmes Rd. Kansas City, MO. A Rosary will follow at 8:00pm at the church. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00am Saturday, January 30th at STM. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Lucena was born June 30, 1924 in Leavenworth, KS as the only child to George Thomas and Eleanor (Mayer) Burns. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s of Science in Dietetics and worked as a Dietician in hospitals for many years. She was also a dedicated mother supporting after school activities, including scouts, and participated in the Altar Rosary Society, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH), was treasurer of the Landlords Association of Cass County, and long time member of the American Dietetics Association. Lucena enjoyed sewing, researching genealogy, traveling the world, and sipping on a cup of black coffee. Her family and friends remember her dedicated and hard working attitude, good sense of humor, and her talents for story telling. Lucena is loved and will be missed.
Survivors include daughter, Judy Panek-Bing (Bill); Carol Panek-Ellis (Robert); son, Paul E. Panek; daughter, Marsha Gregg; son, Jim Panek (Jean Ann); son, David Panek (Mary Beth); son, Robert Panek (Amy); grandchildren, Meghan, Abigail, and Clara Bing; Cody and Rylan Ellis; Bryant Panek (Karla); Matthew, Nicholas, Hailey, and Katelyn Gregg; Brandon and Holly Panek; D.J., Adam, Eli and Rebekah Panek; Lainey and Robby Panek; and one great grandchild expected this year.
