James Parker, 84, Harrisonville, MO passed away Friday, October 19, 2007 at Belton Research Hospital. A visitation will be from 11:00-12:30 PM, Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Indep. MO. Graveside services at Mound Grove Cemetery will begin at 1:00 PM, Tuesday.
James was born in Hartshorne, OK on January 24, 1923 to James E. and Othela (Powell) Parker. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged after being injured in the line of duty. He was given several medals of honor for his service. James retired from the Post Office in Shawnee Mission, Kansas in 1974. He then moved to Mt. Vernon, MO with his wife France. He volunteered at the Mt. Vernon Veterans Home and belonged to the VFW #4541 before moving to live with his daughter in Harrisonville. James loved playing the guitar and singing country music. He will be missed by his family and friends.
James is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Elliott and husband Don; seven grandchildren: Ginger Freeman and husband Ricky, Cindy Cook and husband Bill, Johnnie Elliott, James Parker, Dennis Parker, Sara Parker and Rodney Parker; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife June V. (Hackler) Parker; his second wife, France (Fish) Parker; two sons, James E. Parker, Jr. and Eddie M. Parker; and his sister, Edith Bonidot.
