John William Parker passed away on April 2, 2018, at the age of 93. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055.
John was born in Pleasant Hill, MO on March 27, 1925 the only child of Allen and Edna May Parker. He joined the Navy and served during World War II. After returning from his service, he took at job at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, where he stayed until retirement. He married Maxine Inman in 1961 and began his life as a married man and father. They shared a happy marriage for over 54 years until her death in 2015. He was a loving father to his four children Ron Inman (Dot) of Lee’s Summit, MO; Barbara Stoll (Gary) of Oak Grove, MO; Todd Parker (Sheryl) of Leawood, KS; and Lori Pittman (Rick) of Palmer, AK. His survivors include four grandchildren.
He became active as an adult leader in the Boy Scouts when Todd went through the program and remained active as an Assistant Scoutmaster decades after his son was no longer involved. He was an ardent supporter of the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, where he spent many summers as an adult leader at camp. He received the white paint of a Sachem in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and enjoyed spending weekends prior to the opening of camp each summer to make preparations for another successful season. In addition to his Scouting activities, he enjoyed the time he spent with his Masonic brothers, as a member of the Jewel Lodge in Pleasant Hill.
While always a difficult time, the family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring professionals at Asana Hospice for their assistance and guidance in assuring John’s last days were as peaceful as possible.
