Marilyn “Lynn” Ann Parker, 65 of Blue Springs, MO passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 at St. Luke’s East Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 22, 2018 at St. John LaLande Catholic Church 805 NW RD Mize Rd., Blue Springs, MO 64015. Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. There will be a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., followed by family visitation until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Lynn was born July 2, 1952 in St. Louis, MO to Dr. Matt H. and Laverne (Knapp) Backer, Jr. She was a kindergarten teacher and taught for over 20 years at James Lewis Elementary in Blue Springs, MO. She graduated from Xavier High School in St. Louis in 1970. She then attended the University of Missouri and received her bachelors in 1974 and her masters from CMSU in 1978. She enjoyed reading, traveling, water aerobics and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Survivors include; her loving husband, Gary Parker of the home; 2 children, Julie Parker Gallatin and husband Adam of Chicago, IL and Jason Parker and wife Carissa of Blue Springs, MO; 2 grandchildren, Grayson Gallatin and Reese Parker; her father, Dr. Matt H. Backer and wife Georgia of St. Charles, MO; 5 sisters, Kay Backer, Lou Barrett, Susan Backer Conklin, Carol Miller and Pat Banton; and 6 brothers, Matt Backer III, Robert Backer, Ed Backer, Joe Backer, Brian Backer and Denis Backer. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey M. Parker in 1981, her mother Laverne Backer, and a brother, Don Backer. Donations may be made in her name to James Lewis Elementary or to Children’s Mercy Hospital in memory of Jeffrey Parker.
