Orban Wilmet Parker, Sr., 91 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., until service time Wednesday at the chapel. Burial with full military honors will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Donations may be made in his name to the Shriner’s hospital. Orban was born February 7, 1926 in Kansas City, KS to William Nathan and Elva Mabel (Points) Parker and has been a lifelong area resident. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He had worked most of his life in the food service industry starting as a cook in the Navy to owning and operating his own restaurants. He was a member of the McDonald Masonic Lodge #324 in Independence, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, the Lion’s Club and was a active member of the Shriner’s. He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Ruth Parker of the home; 2 children, Orban W. Parker, Jr. of Marietta, GA and Nancy Ruth Gervy and her husband Larry of Blue Springs, MO; a brother, Carl H. Parker and wife Sue of Surprise, AZ; a sister, Norma Jean Alumbaugh of El Dorado Springs, MO; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Horace “Buddy” Parker and Earl Parker.
