Kenneth "Ken" J. Parks

May 23, 1956 — July 28, 2019

On Sunday, July 28, 2019, Kenneth (Kenny) James Parks passed away peacefully in his sleep. A visitation will take place from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Service at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 2, at the Suburban Chapel with burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. Born May 23, 1956 to James and Foresta Parks, Kenny spent his childhood working side-by-side with his father “Red”. Kenny diligently, an often times reluctantly, learned hard work and family were the keys to a successful life. In 1986, Kenny stumbled across the love of his life…a 1971 Buick GS Stage 1. Through many years of sweat and hard work, Kenny had built his dream machine. One of Kenny’s favorite things to do was to take his many nieces for a convertible ride and go fast enough just so their hair would whip their faces. Kenny was a tad bit ornery.

Kenny is survived by his 4 siblings, Kimberly Crawford, Kellie Swenson, Kristina Bruntmyer and Kyle Parks. One of Kenny’s greatest joys was being a “Gruncle”….a GREAT Uncle! Having a total of 9 nieces, 6 nephews, 13 great-nieces and 6 great-nephews Kenny was never bored. Kenny attended countless school performances, athletic events and birthday parties just so they knew their “Favorite Uncle Kenny” loved them.

Kenny was never a stranger to those he met. His “pint size” got him in the door, but his humor and stories made him your friend almost immediately. Kenny wheeled & dealed with the best. The start of “Cheap & Dale” was one of Kenny’s favorite stories to share. His eye for all things muscle car and his love of people are what made Kenny infamous. From preparing for the next swap meet, flirting with the waitresses at his favorite morning coffee spots to sharing his dance moves in public places, Kenny was the life of the party.
