Patricia Ruth Whitworth

Patricia (Piper) Whitworth was born March 8, 1936 to Lura and Irl Piper in King City, Missouri. She passed away March 31, 2025 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Patty was an avid traveler and enjoyed trips to beaches, cities, ancestral homelands, national parks, historic battlefields, and everywhere in between. Her favorite afternoons were spent with family over a good meal and she would always find a creative way to pay the bill before anyone noticed.

Patty found faith in God, joy in her family, and delight at the simplest of things - watching her birdbath, working a puzzle, and a tomato fresh from her garden. She brought family history alive with her detailed genealogical research and spent time tracking down forgotten gravestones and stories. She was generous, strong-willed, and intelligent.

Above all, Patty took great pride in her family. She doted on and loved three generations with five children, fourteen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren (with one more on the way). Her 59 year marriage with her beloved husband Jim was a steadfast example of joy, love, and true partnership.

She is survived by her children: Mary Jane Goss (Curtis), Susan Caroline Hunt (Richard), Nancy Elizabeth Whitworth (Doug), Rachel Lee Retter (Paul); grandchildren: Kate Williams (Chris), Jacob Goss (Jennifer), Luke Goss, Sam Hunt (Allison), Grace Hunt, Olivia Hunt, Maggie Cardonell (Brad), Chloe Mussman (Ian), Emily Ballou, Zach Ballou (Leah), Hilary Castagno (Joe), Anna Retter (Seth), Will Retter, Ellie Retter; and 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Whitworth, her son, James Whitworth, her parents, Lura and Irl Piper, and brother Dick Piper.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, April 4, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church of Independence- 100 N Pleasant St., Independence, MO 64050. Visitation to immediately follow.
