Jonna Sue Patterson, 69, of Independence Missouri passed on to her heavenly reward on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Jonna was born in Aledo Illinois, to Mark and Ruth Holmes. Jonna was the second in the Line of four daughters, though she always referred to herself as the middle child and claiming all of the mischievousness that is associated with that title. Jonna was raised in the church being taught about Jesus and His love for her from an early age. She knew and loved the Lord all the days of her life.
Jonna spent the majority of her growing up years in New London Iowa. There she was able to apply her flair for the dramatic towards the theater and speech where she excelled. She was in a number of high school theater and speech performances. She might tell you that the pinnacle of her acting career was being cast as a fairy in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” during the summer theater program at a nearby college. Jonna always loved creative writing and as a teenager, she used her dramatic capabilities to write a Civil War novel in which she managed to also intermingle her love of the Beatles. She somehow managed to weave John, Paul, George, and Ringo seamlessly into the melodrama. I am sorry to report that there are no surviving copies of that piece of literary genius.
As an adult Jonna’s full-time job was taking care of her husband Dennis, whom she adored, her kids Dani and Josh, her grandkids Jackson, Josh, Julieann, and Joe who were the light of her life, and all of her bonus grandkids, you know who you are.
Jonna’s other equally important jobs were centered around living out her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and caring for both the temporal and spiritual needs of all the people that crossed her path. She did this by working at the church’s Lunch Partners program working in many different roles over several decades and also the Clothes Closet program. She was a fiery defendant of the faith, and the importance of the Lunch Partner and Clothes Closet programs. She had a strong desire to see the people that came in for food or clothes the way Christ does. The way Christ sees each one of us. She would get annoyed with herself when she felt she had been short with someone that she had taken care of. Jonna was not perfect, she would want you to know that she fell far short of the mark. But what she had without a doubt, was a servant’s heart. She was humble and willing, and the Lord used her, frequently.
Jonna’s pride and joy was her family, all of them. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Ruth Holmes. She leaves behind her husband Dennis, daughter Dani & David Patrick with Jackson and Julieann, son Josh Sr. & Jen Patterson with Josh Jr. and Joseph. Sisters: Vicki, and Alan Olson with Erin, Mark, and Brett, Jill Holmes with Shannon and Matt, Kelli and Randy Woods with Noah, Eli, Tessa, and Isaiah.
