John C. Pendleton

January 12, 1924 — September 4, 2019

John C. Pendleton age 95 passed away on September 4, 2019 at Centerpoint Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII overseas in the European Theater of Operations.
After retiring from the mail service, he worked as office manager 12 years for the Franklin Oil Company of
Delivered papers for both the Independence Examiner and the (Old) Journal Post. On 3-18-41 was selected carrier of the year for the Independence Examiner.
Mr. Pendleton was one of those starting the youth baseball program called the Queen City Athletic Association and was the third president (1965-1966). He was a manager in the QCAA, Kiwannis, and Zenas Smith Leagues. Also served on the Board of Directors of all three leagues.
Served as committee chairman in the cub pack of the Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church. John was committee chairman of the Boy Scout Troop of St Paul’s United Methodist Church and as the troop scoutmaster at the H.
Roe Bartle Boy Scout Camp in Osceola, Mo. where he was a member of the Tribe of Mic—O- Say.
He was a member of the Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church and also of the Mt. Washington Masonic Lodge #614 and served as secretary-treasurer of it's Benevolent Association. John was a member of Post #3600 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Climax Springs, Mo. and Post #21 of the American Legion in Independence, Mo.
After retiring, spent most summers at their cabin located in Old Pine Cove on Lake of the Ozarks near Edwards, Mo. returning to the Independence home during the winter.
Mr. Pendleton and his wife Alcidene had 2 children, Pamela Atkins and John Pendleton Jr. 3 grandchildren - Darin Atkins, Michelle Nieweg, and Dustin Pendleton, also 4 great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Graveside service with full Military Honors will be 10am Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Royer Cemetery in Grain Valley, Mo. on AA Highway.
